The Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Chargers come into week nine both relatively healthy. The Seahawks had a chance to get right excluding their two studs lost for the season in safety Earl Thomas and tight end Will Dissly and the Chargers don’t come into the matchup with any new concerns but are monitoring two keys injuries that have plagued their 2018 season in Melvin Gordon and Joey Bosa — Bosa much more so than Gordon.
The initial injury report for the Seahawks and Chargers features only 14 players total but nine players total who did not practice. None of them seem like too serious concerns, outside of Bosa, but the week will have to play out to know the full weight of the injury bug.
The Seahawks had five key players returning from injury last week following their bye in tight end Ed Dickson, defensive ends Rasheem Green and Dion Jordan, tight end Nick Vannett and outside linebacker K.J. Wright; although Green ended up not playing again in week eight. They’ll have to see if he can make through the week this time around and how their returning injured players fare after a week of action.
The Seahawks are now winners of four of their last five and return home to face the Los Angeles Chargers.
Melvin Gordon is expected to play for the Chargers after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury. In his last game against the Browns on Oct. 14, he rushed for 132 yards and three TDs. Mr. Rivers should have a good day, he’s completing 69 percent of his passes with 17 TDs and only three interceptions and is on a pace to throw for 4,500 yards! The Seahawks’ secondary played well against Matthew Stafford last Sunday, proving it could hold up against one of the better quarterbacks in the league. The Seahawks rank No. 5 in the NFL in pass defense and No. 3 in opponent passer rating. Rivers better not hold the ball for too long.
The Seahawks are 26th in the league in total offense, averaging 337 yards a game. The Chargers, without an injured Joey Bosa, have an average run defense at No. 16 in the league, allowing 106 yards a game.
