The recently snake bit Los Angeles Chargers (3-5) almost squandered another game away but luck turned the Bolts way as they knocked off the Chicago Bears (3-4) at Soldier Field Sunday to stay alive and not completely fold this season. With the win, the Chargers can now focus on another win and yes then another win hoping to work their way back into a playoff spot somehow, someway. Focusing on one game at a time keeps it simple and the Chargers are known to finish strong. The Chargers could have easily won a few more games this year with better play and the Bolts are much better than their record despite all the injuries and the recent sloppy play. Joey Bosa kept the Chargers in the game with a great performance. The defense overall played poorly with many pass interference calls and the 3 and out late did not help the Chargers secure a victory. The Bears had their chances to win Sunday’s game but squandered them away. The outcome can be traced back to missed field goals and poor red zone execution.
In the first half, Chicago made four trips to the red zone and had just nine points to show for it. They ran 16 plays within the red zone in the first half and came away with just 14 yards gained according to The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain. Nine plays within Los Angeles’ 10-yard line went for zero yardage.
Kicker Eddy Pineiro successfully converted 3 of 5 field goals with misses from 33 and 41 yards, including the final attempt as time expired.
Chicago is being outscored 24-50 in the fourth quarter this season (six games). Los Angeles is outscoring their opponents 62-35 in the fourth quarter (seven games). In fact, they have scored in each of their eight games this season. With the win, the Bolts stayed alive in the hunt and it was a huge win for the team to build on.
