There is some very positive news coming from the Chargers defense, as DE Joey Bosa returns to practice this week. The Chargers have struggled a bit rushing the passer this season, but they’re about to get a huge boost when star defensive end Joey Bosa returns to the roster.
NFL Network reports that Bosa has been cleared for limited participation in practice this week. A lingering foot injury has kept him out since the beginning of the season, and he’s shown considerable improvement recently. Even without their premier defensive player, the Chargers boast the NFL eighth-best defense, allowing only 20.7 points per game. Not bad- however, they have recorded only 13 sacks, which ranks them 29th in the league. Bosa alone had racked up 12.5 sacks last season. The third-year Ohio State product already has 23 career sacks, and he hasn’t even played a snap for the Chargers this season. He’s an important part of the team’s future, so they won’t rush to throw him back into the fire.
If Joey Bosa progresses quickly, he will be a very valuable asset for the Chargers as the regular season comes to a close. Bosa can really get after the the QB, which will be huge towards the end of the season, including going into the playoffs. There is an old saying, “Defense wins Championships” and with a healthy Joey Bosa and an explosive offense, this may just be the Chargers best chance at a Superbowl Championship, ever.
