The Los Angeles Chargers are moving one step closer to bringing back their future Hall of Fame tight end.
In an appearance Wednesday on 97.3 The Fan in San Diego, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said that the team has been in touch with Antonio Gates and his representatives about a potential reunion.

There has been a lot of talk about the possible reunion with number 85 since Hunter Henry’s season ending knee injury. Even Phillip Rivers was excited about the possibility of bringing Gates back. As a matter of fact, LACI (Los Angeles Chargers Info) did an opinion piece on this topic, strongly urging the Chargers to consider bringing Gates back in. Even if Gates has lost a step, he still knows the game and Gatesy knows how to get open. We are excited for this classic story line! Antonio Gates definitely deserves a ring!
The soon-to-be 38-year-old Gates, an eight-time Pro Bowler, has played all 15 seasons of his career with the Chargers. He caught 30 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns last year but remains unsigned for the 2018 season.
